Catch-Up with the Chesapeake Sports Club



The March meeting of the Chesapeake Sports Club was held at the Chesapeake Conference Center. President Steve Johnson welcomed the members and related that the recently held Jamboree was a huge success with over 650 attendees. Jerald Gaines, one of the few college athletes ever to win All-America honors in 3 sports was inducted as the 80th Legend of Honor. Four outstanding high school athletes were also honored for their achievements: Caleb Mauldin and Allison Ramirez for swimming from Hickory High School, Lauren Espirit for gymnastics from Great Bridge High School, and Conner Wallace for wrestling from Hickory High School. Glenn Hampton introduced guest speaker James Poo Johnson, Vice-President of Development for the Boys and Girls Clubs. Mr. Johnson has been mentoring young men and women for more than 50 years.
